Product photography- all you need to know

A product photograph is the medium that attracts, informs, and compels a potential customer to buy the product. So while a picture is worth a thousand words, it also gives huge returns in terms of monetary revenue. Have you ever noticed that the most successful online portals are the ones that post the best product photographs?

What is product photography?

Product photography is the technique of displaying products in an attractive and lucrative manner such that the customers realize the value of the product and go ahead and make a purchase. Product photography is not just essential for online marketing it is also required for offline marketing services like product brochures, catalogs, magazines, flyers, billboards, and in cases where the product is being directly sold to the consumer.

Here are some product photography tips:

  1. Use the right product photography equipment

This goes without saying that a good quality camera will produce pictures of superior quality highlighting all its important features. Pictures come out really well with an iPhone camera, or else you could use good cameras. Other photography gears include proper lighting equipment, tripod stand, and some people prefer a timer remote or a shutter release trigger.

  1. Use good photography techniques

You should invest some time in making preparations for your photo shoot. This involves setting up a stage and getting things ready for the shoot. You can decide the placement of the objects and the amount of area you want to cover as your staging environment. Set your angles and get multiple angles of the product shot. This way, your customers can get a complete idea of the product features, specifications, and quality.

  1. Photo editing

This is the most important stage of product photography. At times there might be issues while shooting pictures light inappropriate lighting, poor picture quality and more. Post-processing of the photo is done to clean and enhance the picture quality. There could be small mistakes while clicking the picture, or maybe the product has to be showcased against a different background. Whatever be the case, photo editing techniques using Adobe Photoshop can be used to enhance the picture quality. This software allows users to perform photo editing like retouching of images, image manipulation, background removal, drop shadow, photomasking and more. The images can be edited and optimized for display on the web.

In e-commerce services, products are usually displayed against a white background so that its features and specifications are prominent and clear. The product photos should have relevant tags and contain the correct resolution so that they do not take much time in uploading. They should also be clear and appealing.
